America's second largest wine region is practically next door in the enchanting Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York. On our first day, we will stop for lunch (on own), then proceed to the Saranac Brewery in Utica for a tour and tasting. We arrive in Auburn on Owasco Lake and check-in at the lovely Holiday Inn Auburn. Tonight we'll have dinner at the Springside Inn. Day two is all about the wine. First, we visit nearby Seneca Falls, famously known as the model for "Bedford Falls", and discover the "It's a Wonderful Life" museum with tributes to the iconic film. It truly is a wonderful life as we set off to sample some of the very best wines along the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail, stopping at two wineries to sample various vintages, learn about wine-making, take in the stunning views and stroll the grounds. At our second winery we will be provided with gourmet sandwiches before we leave. Our next stop is nearby Taughannock Falls Park where we will view the impressive Falls and enjoy our lunch. We continue on to Ithaca with some free time at the downtown Commons, a completely renewed four block pedestrian area with over 100 unique shops, street vendors, bars and entertainment. We continue our journey to the Six Mile Winery and Distillery that offers specialty spirits distilled into Vodkas, Grapas, Limoncellos and more. We will sample some of these spirits accompanied by hors d'oeuvres. We will make one more Winery tasting stop, then enjoy dinner tonight at the hotel with a specially organized 5 course Menu with Wine Pairings. Day three includes some special visits. We travel to Canadaigua Lake and take a morning boat ride to get another perspective of the vineyards that cascade to the Lake's shores. Next, a visit to the New York Culinary and Wine Institute where we will be treated to an instructor led wine tasting of 5 wines followed by a 3 Course cooking demonstration with a luncheon and wine pairing. Enjoy some free time on the grounds and at the Bistro before we depart for home.
