Vanderbilts & Votes for Women Tour

Trip Highlights
Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the women’s right to vote in the US.
Your local guide will reveal Newport’s little known history with women’s suffrage.

Your guide, in the costume of a suffragette, will narrate a driving tour of Ten-Mile Ocean Dr., highlighting sights relating to the Suffrage Movement & remarkable women who lived in Newport.

Then enjoy a plated lunch at the Atlantic Resort with a special treat after dessert. Menu: Salad, entrée choice in advance: Chicken Breast with tarragon mustard cream sauce OR Baked Stuffed Scrod, potato, vegetable, dessert, coffee & tea. Your guide will conduct a recreation of a suffrage rally with participation by guests. For fun, some guests will be asked to play the role of opposing suffrage. Guests will be given flags and pom-poms to show their support or dissent.

Lastly, enjoy an audio self-guided tour of the Marble House mansion, once owned by Alva Vanderbilt Belmont where she held the 1914 suffrage rally.
